It’s OK, though. Now I love you and I’m sorry about those emails I sent. You see, I would watch your new TV spots featuring Terry Crews and I wanted to throw heavy things at my TV. They were annoying. They were stupid. And they were annoying. Yes, annoying (x) 2.
But then something weird happened — I laughed at one of the spots. It was completely unintentional…but I laughed, and I was entertained. My mind was boggled; how could I hate these spots so badly, and then find them entertaining? Take a look for yourself and let me know what you think:
The campaign is from Wieden + Kennedy, Portland, and the spots are directed by Tim & Eric from the Awesome Show, and there’s whole YouTube channel where you can watch all of them (yes, I have watched all of them). What’s the marketing message? Audience demographics and psychographics? Features/benefits? I don’t know (OK, I have a clue) and I don’t care (I’m lying again) — I really enjoyed turning my brain off for a minute and experiencing the random, spastic humor that these videos bring. It took a few times of me seeing them before I realized this, but now I find myself going back to the Old Spice channel to see if the videos have been updated with new ones.
It’s a good idea to turn your “advertising” brain off every once in a while, but just remember to turn it back on before you show up at work. Aaaaaaaaabdominals!
