The 2010 Cannes Advertising Festival

by Stephen Young on July 2, 2010

When most people hear about an annual festival in Cannes, France, they usually think of the Cannes Film Festival. But, those of us in the ad industry look forward to another yearly festival there: the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival.

For over 50 years, the Cannes Festival has awarded advertising professional from across the globe, and the competition is fierce. The 57th festival wrapped up a few days ago and it ran from 6/20-6/26. The winners for this year were just announced, and the Grand Prix (the most prestigious award) was handed to the Old Spice “The Man Your Man Could Smell Like” spot from the Wieden + Kennedy agency in Portland, OR. Take a look:

As you may have read, I wasn’t a fan of the Old Spice creative at first, but I quickly came around to loving it. Kudos to the creative minds behind that campaign and congratulations to them on the achievement at Cannes.

For the sake of draining bandwidth here, to see some of the Gold Lion winners, head on over here. It’s a little dream of mine to attend the Cannes Ad Festival one day, and if any of you have actually attended, I’d love to hear your story.
